Our project A Robotics Coding Classroom gives students highly motivating access to robots and coding languages. This project prepares at risk students for the demand of a coding literate workforce. There are 7 million job openings in occupations requiring coding skills. Programming jobs overall are growing 12% faster than the market average. The student of the future most have a coding robotics literacy to be competitive. Students entering the workforce will need to speak several coding languages/be versed in the basics of robotics. Our special needs students who come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds will get hands on experience with code and robotics preparing them for the specialized workforce demand of the future. The items chosen coding robots Dash, Evo, Littlebits ,and accompanying ipads are highly motivating and will focus learners that otherwise would never have access to these resources. Our economically disadvantaged special needs students need these opportunities in classrooms daily to bridge the digital divide with their general education counterparts.
