I have been a teacher since 1994. I was fortunate enough to begin my teaching career in Namibia, Africa. Since then, I've been in my native state, Minnesota teaching 5th grade in Minneapolis' highest poverty communities. To put it simply, I still love being a teacher because I love the kids. I believe my gift of building strong, personable relationships with families and my students set a more stable foundation for getting my 5th graders to be motivated and engaged in school. Politics of public education can be quite disheartening at times, but focusing on why I have been a teacher for over 20 years - THE KIDS - is what keeps me fresh, passionate, and determined to emulate 'doing my best.'
