My 6-8th grade kiddos came to our school when it first opened last year. Many of these kids and their families came to our school for a fresh start and a better education. Our class is 97% Hispanic and 100% full of students who took action in their education, demanding for something better. These inner city students are fighting against many obstacles to even be at school each day ready to learn. The first thing that you would notice walking into our classroom are the many different activities, worksheets, books and projects distributed to each individual student. So many of our kids came into our school below grade level, but are quickly (at their own pace) catching up. They range from low elementary level to high school level readers, writers, decoders, statisticians and mathematicians. They are all over the place, but they are ALL learning. In order to ensure this each and every day, I must provide them with high interest resources that are at their level.
