My class consists of twenty students. There are twelve boys and eight girls; sixty percent Hispanic, twenty percent African American, and twenty percent Caucasian. Our school is a Title 1 school, there are 461 students, 64% Hispanic, and 94% free and reduced lunch. Our school is made up of predominately Hispanic families with parents that cannot speak English; unfortunately these barriers prohibit the parents from reinforcing what their children learn at school each day. Many of them lack family support, not because the parents do not want to help, but because they do not have the language skills to assist their students. My students' parents do the best they can but the language barrier causes a great deal of difficulties for my students and I. Therefore I wear many hats throughout my day.
