I teach 32 first graders that arrive full of curiosity and enthusiasm every day! They love to discover and share. Each day, my goal is to foster their curiosity by providing them with engaging lessons and activities that allow them choice and voice. When they have choice, they are more engaged in the learning. Hands-on activities are a priority since six and seven-year olds learn by doing. During these activities they can manipulate letters, words, objects, cards, etc. while working independently, with a partner, or with me in a small group. First graders learn from each other. We learn to respectfully listen to each others ideas and opinions, and how to compliment and offer suggestions. First graders are active, so our classroom seating is flexible. This allows them to do their best learning! I am so proud of my voracious readers and magnificent mathematicians! We are all lifelong learners!
