The Students need equipment, a place, and an instructor to allow them to put everything out of mind, and relax. The main piece is the yoga mats themselves. This gives a sense of focus, but more importantly allow us to hold the class in a room, gym, cafeteria, or outside with the same consistent sticky mat. This piece of equipment is a must have to prevent any sort of slipping, and perform the movements in a safer way. The second piece of equipment is blocks. These are used to aid in students who lack flexibility, and provide a support structure for certain movements. The third piece is the straps, and like the block they aid in certain movements by allowing students without flexibility to reach the objective of the position. Lastly, he chart is simply to move and store the equipment when not in use. Kids need to let go. To focus on themselves, their breathing, and reaching inside themselves to seek that moment of clarity and calm. They have everything else on our campus, but nothing that provides the benefits that yoga will bring. My goal is to continue with my outreach program, and bring more students into the fold of yoga, and exercise. The main objective is to have a Friday after school class that is located in a safe and quiet place that students can come to at the end of a long week, and practice and learn a lifelong skill.
