My students all come from low income households and most of their parents don't speak much English. Because of this the students aren't exposed to real world current events. I bring up things that are happening around the world and mention certain countries and it is sad that the children have never heard of these certain issues or even what country I am talking about. They are always so interested in the world around them but don't know how to find out more.
