Science learning in the TK (transitional kindergarten) classroom focuses on teaching inquiry skills through the use of simple science equipment and books. By supporting this project, you will provide students with tools including microscopes, magnifying glasses, butterfly development kits, and rocks. These materials will allow students to observe the structure of a leaf or cell, watch the stages of a butterfly's development, classify rocks, and more. Through nurturing social and emotional growth and colloboration, TK teachers provide an environment for students to experience science by integrating Physical Science, Life Science, and Earth Science as outlined by the NGSS (Next Generation Science Standards). They also integrate other subjects such as English Language Arts, Mathematics, History/Social Science, Physical Education, and Visual and Performing Arts. The Science/Discovery Center enables kindergarten scientists to discover the many areas of scientific investigation and observation. All areas of development can be enhanced. Children use all their processing skills when they observe and ask questions about the world around them.
