My students come from all parts of the world. Mexico, Vietnam, Dominican Republic, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Haiti etc. For the most part, they have received little to no education from their homeland and about 99.99% enter our school district with no English or literacy in their own language. Our students attend a very hard working school. We are always a focus school because of our low test scores which measure our students against the rest of the state. While blaming the language and cultural divide between a school like ours and the rest would be easy, its a truth. Our teachers are always working a difficult uphill battle. Our teachers truly care for our families here at TAS. We organized and rallied for supplies and services from local area businesses in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. Many of our families and students continued to live in storm damaged homes and apartments well after the water receded.
