Our school is a 6-8 middle school in Hawaii. We are a Title I school with more than 50% of our students receiving free or reduced lunch benefits. Many of my students struggle to pay for necessarily supplies and uniform costs, so much of our financial resources (both from the school and from the Band Booster Club) go towards making band more affordable for all students while retaining a high level of quality. Our band program has grown tremendously over the past several years and we have very enthusiastic students and a supportive school community including parents, community members, former students, and community leaders. Administrative support for the arts has been strong for decades. We have been recognized on many occasions for excellence in the arts including music, drama, multimedia, and visual arts.
