My students range in age from twelve to fourteen years old. They are sixth, seventh,and eighth graders in a public, middle school setting in NC. They attend school for 180 days a year. Students at my school have three core classes each day and one elective course. They follow an A day B day schedule rotation. AVID targets students in the academic middle - B, C, and even D students - who have the desire to go to college and the willingness to work hard. These are students who are capable of completing rigorous curriculum but need to embrace the vision of college graduation to fulfill their potential. AVID puts them on the college track: acceleration instead of remediation.
