I always thought that a classroom printer would be a luxury of convenience but now I see it as a smart safety measure. Typically, students would send their work to my computer and I would print it to the little copy room. During lunch or at the end of the day I would collect the print-outs to give to the student the next day. With a printer in class, students would get their work immediately and could take it home to work on for the remote portion of their week (if that is the adopted model) or display it proudly in our room. Student projects could even be printed in color! The best part, students will get paper that has hasn’t been handled by anyone else. I would decrease my exposure to other adults in the copy room, making for a healthier teacher. Paraprofessionals could print notes and special instructions instantly to provide support to their students. Having a classroom printer would decrease the amount of points of contact for me and my students.
