My students are 7th grade students in a rural county in Georgia. Our school has close to 600 students and 80% of our student body qualifies for the free or reduced lunch program. Most of my students come from parents whose highest degree is their high school diploma. Our area has some of the highest drop out rates and teen pregnancy rates in our state. Many of my students do not see any opportunities for themselves outside of their current situation. However, my students are bright and creative. They seem to enjoy learning and school. They are so eager to experience technology and learn more about the world and their global community. I want to give them the chance to connect with other students outside of our county. I want to begin now helping them to gain knowledge and skills they can take with them throughout their lives. Technology and 21st century skills are so important. My students are eager and willing to learn.
