My class is 99% Hispanic living at or below poverty level. They are 9 to 11 years old. They are knowledgeable in many issues but masters of a few. Everyday they walk into my classroom wide-eyed, eager to learn, and willing to try new experiences. They are the future. My school is primarily Hispanic. Students are excited about learning everyday. Success stories abound of students learning and excelling in various subjects. Being from low poverty does not diminish their desire to succeed.
