My students are sixth graders at a high achieving charter school in urban Oklahoma City. The majority of them come from low income minority families, and many of them will be the first of their family to attend college. They attend school from 7:30 to 4:30 every day, about two hours longer than most students, and they take hours of homework home with them each night. Simply put, these kids work hard. They deserve to read high quality books that will inspire and educate them.
