My 7th and 8th graders are a lively bunch! They come to class wide-eyed with questions and eager to learn and work hard. They would say that they "have each Other's backs" as they love to support and collaborate with one another in and out of class. My students have also prove to be adaptable as their resources at home and school hinder their ability to score well on state assessments and therefore significantly decrease their opportunities. Only a handful of our students are accepted to high performing high schools each year. The majority of my students live in poverty as 98% of our student body is on free or reduced school lunch and so have few resources at home, let alone at school. My classroom is also extremely diverse as we serve all of the middle school students currently living in homeless shelters around the city and new students to the district.
