Our students at our school come from a predominantly low-income neighborhood that has limited exposure to the performing arts. Many students only receive enrichment in the forms of after-school tutoring and poetry but have stressed wanting to be involved in music. Seeing this as an opportunity to provide a need, I decided to begin an after-school drumline that can help students learn the basics of rhythm and music, but most importantly teamwork. But I need your help! Drumline is not only a way to teach students basic music fundamentals but also promotes the importance of teamwork. Students work together on different drum instruments to compose music. This requires every person to know their own part but to also listen to the rhythm of those around them. Currently, we have all of the equipment to make this successful: bass drums, cymbals, snare drums, and even tenor drums. However, the current need is for drumsticks for students to use to officially kick off our after-school club. With your help, we can definitely bring the performing arts to my school!
