I absolutely love my students, and I love watching and listening to them express their understanding of and connections to our math lessons! The 24 4th graders I have are in a school that, like others, is experiencing rapid growth. What used to be a small rural district is becoming a large suburban district. With class sizes growing and budget cuts increasing, it is hard to provide enough materials for each student. As a result, the number of students who can use math materials to investigate math strategies that work best for their thinking is decreasing. I have some very bright students who love math and want to challenge themselves to think "outside the box". I hope to gain manipulatives and math literature to provide my students with opportunities to discover new strategies and find connections between our math lessons and the world they will go into as they grow older.
