My students come from families that care about their well-being, support their homework efforts and encourage them to be the best they can be. Though our area is considered "middle class", many of our families have recently found themselves in financial hardships. So much so that paying for high tech "gadgets" such as iPods and iPads is the last thing on their list. While they are in my classroom, though, they are offered the opportunity to use this type of technology, in the form of iPods, due to the generous donations of our PTA. My students are incredibly motivated to learn especially when these devices are wheeled into my classroom. I can't imagine the effect it will have if our classroom could actually own three devices all to ourselves.
