Our students are hungry to learn new things, but the school lacks the sort of funding necessary for these electives. Our district does not have a stringed instrument program, and I am giving guitar lessons for free to any student who can get their hands on a guitar. Some students that have expressed interest in these lessons lack access to a guitar, either because an instrument is not available to them or the funds are not available. We are located in the Lowcountry of South Carolina, in an impoverished area near a closed military base.
