My first grade scholars come from all different ethnic backgrounds. Many of them have language difficulties because they are new to the country or come from a home where English is not spoken. Although they live in one of the most exciting and progressive cities in the world, the overwhelming majority live in extreme poverty, and most receive free lunches. The one thing linking all my scholars together is a love for learning that has not yet been altered by the challenges facing them daily. I passionately want them to love school and be motivated to gain as much knowledge as possible. With their enthusiasm for school, coupled with the resources to successfully inspire them, I believe they can achieve whatever they set their minds to.
