My school is in Southern California, and reflects the diversity of the area with many students having Spanish, Korean, Arabic, Chinese or Vietnamese as their home language. Many of my junior high school students are English Language Learners or are below level in literacy skills, and reading has been a pain, rather than a pleasure, for them.
