Students in my advisory will gain valuable academic skills practice, in addition to developing important social-emotional skills and competencies, like listening, understanding and communicating emotions, and discussion skills, that are all an integral piece of growing self-awareness. My students will use the Self-Esteem Workbook For Teens to help them engage in reflective activities to help them develop a stronger sense of self, unpacking their strengths, areas that challenge them and the elements that make them unique and worthy of respect, both from themselves and from others. This workbook will also allow the students to read and discuss practical exercises to help them deal with setbacks and self-doubt, skills for dealing with criticism, and activities that will aid in the development of self-awareness, self-acceptance, and self-worth. Supplemental activities from the The Body Image Workbook for Teens, will allow me, as their advisor, to pick out activities that can help support their self-esteem growth through focussing on positive and healthy body image messaging. My students will learn powerful coping strategies to deal with the daily, intense pressures of being a teenage girl. Furthermore, using the wellness journal on a consistent, daily basis, will help by girls develop writing stamina and foster a daily habit that I hope will carry them forward into the future. Being able to write about your emotions, and name those emotions, will help reduce anxiety, stress, and other negative feelings. Coloring books with inspirational quotes and quality materials for coloring will also be great tools for my girls to use when they are wanting an artistic outlet.
