My students are inquisitive, diverse, and ready to tackle the world. They live in an economically challenged, urban area in the Bay Area where technology is rapidly evolving and the pressure to succeed is ever present. Despite their proximity to Silicon Valley, most of my students don't have computers in their homes, and few have tables or smart phones. They attend a school that is evolving and improving thanks to a School Improvement Grant, new teachers, and a dedicated staff. My students are diverse: some are immigrants who still struggle with language acquisition while others were born in the area and show pride in their community. They are typical teenagers who could excel if the technology gap were closed and opportunities were presented to them.
