Over 80% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunches. Our district feeds free breakfast to every child. The majority of my students home language is something other than English. Parents are unable to assist them with learning to read in English. It makes their opportunity to learn more English at school all that much more important. Both English and Math are weak skills for my pre-k students. I have only one student computer in my classroom for 20-22 students to share. They have to take turns, but many of them do not get a turn every day as they only attend pre-k class for half a day.
