I provide reading intervention to 21 students ranging from ages 6 to 11 here in Texas. Each one of these students have been diagnosed with some form of learning disability, such as long and short term memory retrieval deficiencies, dyslexia characteristics, auditory and visual perception, etc. Over 90% of these students are ESL/ELL (English Second Language/ English Language Learners). All the students receive special education in-class support within the general education classroom. Most of the students are very reserved when it comes to participating in the classroom, especially whenever they have to read aloud. They realize that they lack some of the skills many of their other classmates have, which causes them to feel embarrassed. Sometimes some of them get so frustrated that they begin acting out in class. Although, they have deficiencies, they also have strengths. It is very important to make sure these student have an opportunity to feel successful.
