I work in a self-contained special education classroom for half of my day. It is called the BELIEVE program which stands for behavior, expectation, learning, initiative, encouragement, values, and evolution. Students in this program are placed here due to emotional or behavior issues that require them to need more help than the regular education setting. They are striving hard to learn coping mechanisms and go back into their regular education classrooms when they show success. When given a chance and the time to build relationships with these students, I have seen them grow immensely this year. Many of the students struggle in reading. Even though they are junior/seniors they read at the 3rd - 6th grade level. Many of their textbooks come online and students can listen to the text. Technology helps motivate them to complete work. When given the choice of a written project or a computer one they will always choose computer and impress me with how hard they will work.
