My sixth grade students attend a rather large junior high school. Many are first- or second- generation Americans, and most are underprivileged, so they don't have access to technology outside of the school like most kids. They also live in a tiny town, and a majority of them don't get to see much of the United States, much less the world. That doesn't mean they don't want to learn, though. My kids love to learn about the world around them through our reading class and can get carried away talking about the history and cultures revealed in our reading selections. Their eagerness to learn only intensifies as they learn more and more. I want my kids to learn as much about the world as possible and get a chance to use cutting-edge technology in the classroom while doing it.
