My students are the true underdogs. They are so special in my eyes and heart. I teach in a Title I school in South Florida. The majority of my students are living in poverty and struggle with the basics every day. They are eager to learn and reach for the stars every day. I commute an hour each way and wouldn't change a thing. My own son attends my school and will be starting first grade. This past year, eight of my nineteen students read above grade level which is not an easy accomplishment considering the struggles they face daily. I would like to provide a home away from home and a stimulating environment that is modern and FUN! Most of my students receive free breakfast and most receive free or reduced rate lunch. I also had three students who qualified for the backpack food program. Money is scare and I truly desire a way to help them achieve their potential and allow them to shine. They are the world to me and will someday be a role model, mentor, and the leaders of tomorrow.
