I have the Transitional K/Kindergarten class. All 30 of my students have their birthdays between August and December 2. In other words they are all 4 when school starts and the TK's (Transitional Kindergarten) are the last to turn 5 by December. Needless to say, they do not like to sit for too long listening, but like to be doing. Over half of my class is on free or reduced lunch. The school is a Title I school, filled with outstanding teachers. We are in a large populated area, where the students can be transient, which makes it important to spend as little time as possible on testing and more time on teaching. It is a joy to watch them grow and learn, especially when you see the light bulb switch on, and letters and sounds start to make sense and form words in their active minds. Teaching the youngest group is an experience I look forward to daily. They bring a great deal of joy to my life.
