My students are in a very small rural Alaska Yupik Eskimo village. We are separated from the rest of the state by extreme distances, rough terrain, and lack of easy transportation. Despite these limitations we still survive and thrive. We are attempting to keep our unique culture alive. For our culture, village, and way of life to continue in the future education must be adjusted to meet us where we currently are and push us to reach the new levels that we must attain. Our school and village is separated from the rest of the state as we do not have any road access. The only access is through planes or barge. This greatly increases the shipping cost of all goods from food to books.
