These books were chosen because they support specific, engaging lessons in comprehension that will help my students grow as independent readers. They are quality pieces of literature that provide diverse roll models and exposure to different cultures and experiences than our Texas hometown. Books give them an insight into the world outside their small circle, and develop their vocabulary in both people and places. After we have completed each study, they will be working on specific skills in order to apply to their own reading. We do not have access to these titles in our school library, and need them in order to do this important work.
