My students are mostly rural children who come from poor to middle class backgrounds. We are a county school in GA. This is a public school with grades PreK-5th. My students love to read and are so excited about it . You can see the curiosity about reading in their eyes when they first come in. They "pretend" read in the beginning, and are amazed at themselves when they hear me say, "That's what real reading is. Can you believe you are reading?" For many of them it comes easily and for others it takes longer. Probably over half of my students don't have substantial libraries in their homes which makes teaching them more difficult. I want to have books that are challenging but I also want a library with books that are on their beginning reading levels. Having these books will allow my students to feel very successful, very early.
