The best way to learn a new language is to acquire the vocabulary in context. Reading is of utmost importance to the success of the students in my upper level Spanish classes. The books I am requesting books are of varying levels and topics so that I can find something that interests all of my students. I have implemented Voluntary Free Reading time in my class every Friday. I have been getting books from the public library, but am hoping to grow the classroom library so that students have more options and so they can finish a book before it needs to be returned. Students have enjoyed this new part of my class and ask if we can have more reading on other days. Their reading and writing skills have become much stronger, even since the beginning of the year. I feel that it is because they are reading!
