The school I work at is very special to me because I graduated from there 4 years ago, and now I am blessed to be back teaching art. Our high school is labeled the "urban" school in town and everyone shoots them down for it. Personally, I think that's an insult and a disgrace because the kids then start to believe all the negative things said about them. My students are funny, creative, original and don't really believe in themselves. I am doing my absolute best to change the minds of the kids I teach and all the rest that I see on a regular bases. The kids always say "I can't," which drives me nuts. In turn, I respond with, "I don't expect you to be perfect, I expect you to try your best!" The students then get down to work and their art is amazing. They need a little encouragement and a great community to believe in them. Our class motto begins with "Motivated People Only." They are starting to learn to love art and love learning which inspires me to push them every day!
