My students are full of many questions and are constantly asking me how things work. My challenge is to engage them in the scientific process so they can begin to answer their own questions. Our school is made up of a diversity students and needs. We are a Title 1 school with students coming from many socioeconomic backgrounds. In my classroom, the students range from Far Below Basic to Advanced in both English Language Arts and Math. Our ELL population is about 42%. My students enjoy working with technology and hands-on science experiments. They collaborate with one another on many levels through flexible groups, pair-share, and collaborative projects. It is important for my students to learn how to work together as we continue into the 21st Century learning model. Engaging my students in the scientific method to help them understand why things happen in the world around them is a critical part of their education.
