"Art is literacy of the heart." - Elliot W. Eisner, emeritus professor of Art and Education at the Stanford Graduate School of Education. I teach Visual Arts from grades K-8 at Carlos Fuentes Elementary in Chicago, IL. I am currently in my 8th year of teaching, and last year- I received the Teacher of the Year Award at my school! I believe that art is an essential part of a child's education. Art teaches children to appreciate the beauty in the world around them, as well as to develop a respect for experiences and cultures different from their own. Art helps students not only to express their ideas and thoughts, but to have confidence in their ability to problem solve, things creatively, and communicate ideas effectively. Above all, Art Class is a subject where students of diverse backgrounds and abilities can excel, and find a passion for learning and exploring new ideas.
