My students are unique. They are the epitome of the achievement gap in the U.S. Despite obstacles and setbacks, they are creative, hilarious, outgoing, opinionated, and hardworking. They face challenges that the average 5th grader does not face. Each student qualifies for free breakfast and lunch provided by the government. They do not let their hardships bring them down or break their spirit. They attend a public school that continuously receives a failing grade. A very small percentage of the students at the school are reading at grade level. They have had a lot of people give up on them in the past. We are working hard everyday to catch up and improve our reading and writing skills! My students love learning!
