I am fortunate enough to teach a group of enthusiastic, eager-to-learn third graders. Although our school is in a high poverty area where nearly every student receives free lunch and few are able to experience technology outside of the classroom (most are below poverty-level), they come to school with an "awesome Viking attitude" each day. Our school currently has a population of over 1,000 students and a computer lab that only allows for 20-30 minutes of computer time per student per week. Our classroom has one student computer that is ancient and usually broken. In order to meet the demands of our new Common Core Standards, all third graders must learn to type proficiently and use computer/tablet technology in the next few months...with these limited resources.
