Our students are fifth graders at an elementary school with a diverse and growing population, with over 60% (and growing) identified as free and reduced price lunch status. Students participate in a Core Value character ethics program at school, although emphasis on this has waned in recent years. We would like to revitalize this program by improving the role of 5th graders in our building as models of character and behavior. This will begin with community service opportunities for the 5th graders, including cleaning up community parks and areas. We hope to increase overall student positive behavior, motivation, and achievement, as well as impact the character of individual students.
