Our student body includes a wide range of socio-economic backgrounds. We are a large school in a large district with 760 students K-6. In my first grade classroom, I have a variety of English as a second language learners, kids with special needs, and a wide array of learning styles. Hands-on learning is an essential part of a first graders' tools to better understanding of math concepts.
