As the library media specialist, I serve all 450 students in our K-8 urban school in Connecticut. The school is both racially and culturally diverse, and more than half of our students qualify for free or reduced priced lunch. Our students hail from at least 20 different countries, and more than a third of them speak another language besides English at home. Our school is a Higher Order Thinking School (HOTS), and as such, we integrate the arts into our teaching. Our students read, research and share their learning through the visual arts, drama, music, dance and poetry.
