I am a teacher in a an inner-city school in Alabama. The majority of my students come from low income homes and are on free lunch (Title 1). They have a desire to learn but many of the concepts of science are mundane and seem foreign due to a lack of exposure. It is not a shock that some of my students have not even taken a trip to our city zoo! While I may try to incorporate such a trip in the near or distant future, what I really want to do is bring science, actual lab experience to my classroom. I am a person who must touch and feel to really grasp a concept, most of my students are tactile learners as well.
