I have a diverse group of students in my classroom. Most come from low income households and struggle to regulate their emotions. Several of my students are suicidal and many are dealing with a traumatic situation in their life. They have not developed coping skills and tend to lash out at other students. Bullying has been a prominent issue with this group of students. The majority of students in my classes have an abundance of nervous energy and often distract themselves and others in the class. This makes it difficult for the students to focus and think through problems. This has ben an ongoing issue since kindergarten which has caused many students to fall behind. They have very little confidence and give up easily when faced with a challenge. My goal is to help them develop the skills to cope with their impulsive behavior so they can be successful in school and life.
