My students are 6th graders, with a variety of special education needs. They are taking on new responsibilities as they get to know the routines at a multicultural city middle school in Maine. They come from a variety of socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds, and some of them have been learning English as a second language. The students have difficulty keeping pace with their peers in the classroom without modifications and accommodations. I am hoping that by using audio books, they can listen to the books as they read along and this will result in better comprehension and an increased feeling of belonging in the classroom.
