The environment in a classroom should be inviting and comfortable, especially during personal reading time. Creating a designated spot in the classroom where children can read in comfort is essential because it helps them develop lifelong reading habits. The comfort of a bean bag chair allows children to focus on their learning. Additionally, studies have shown that bean bag furniture can also provide therapy for autistic children with sensory processing difficulties. I have had an increase of students who have been diagnosed on the autism spectrum as well as students who have anxiety. My current bean bag chairs are flattened and worn out. Although I have large class sizes, each student has multiple opportunities to use the bean bag chairs throughout the year. No doubt, they will be a big hit in my class this year and many years that follow!
