An iPad in the hands of first graders is a step towards creating a more positive and kind world. My students are always seen through the lens of the media. Our community is portrayed as one where violence and disillusionment reign. Tell that to my first graders, and they will fill your minds and hearts with stories of why our community is one where education, hard work, and creativity are valued. With the help of these iPads, my students will be able to tell their own stories and know that their voices matter. They will be able to record how they become scientists as they conduct science investigations. They can create digital books and record their stories. As English language learners my students need to be able to practice and listen to the ways in which language is used. With the iPads, they will be able to listen and respond to one another without the fear of how they might sound. My diverse learners will also have resources and activities that are geared towards their specific and individual needs. They will all be able to participate and become more confident in their abilities. My students will be able to see technology as a resource for learning and as a method of communication. First graders are natural storytellers, help them share their stories and continue on their adventure into 21st century learning!
