My second grade gifted students learn through varied hands-on experiences that are purposeful and relevant to them. They interact on their environment to build concepts. Students involved with the America Is project will share the significance of our corner of America with our school of more than 500 elementary children and the community. The science and arts supplies for this project will allow the integration of several subject areas and skills. Pee-uuuu! How DOES the great horned owl regularly eat skunks? How is a raptor different than a song bird? Research the animals of the Pascagoula River, observe and compare specimens, and create realistic projects through the arts to gain understanding to these questions and more! America Is... the Pascagoula River project affords children the opportunity to develop sorting, classification, observation, analytical, creative thinking skills, and an appreciation for the visual and performing arts.
