The students have emotional disabilities and have had negative experiences with the law. They are in the 11th and 12th grade but read at the 3rd-4th grade level. The unique challenges come in the form of verbal and physical aggression towards each other and themselves, struggling academically, and negative pressures from the community and/or family. Our school is the lowest performing school in the state with over 70% coming from an indigenous population.
