My students are sixth graders in an elementary school with no school specialists. Some parents involve their children in sports and music as extracurricular activities, but extremely rarely are they ever taught skills in expressing themselves as artists. I think art is a non-aggressive way to express emotion and discover self. Regular drawing paper, crayons, and tempera paint is typically all they are exposed to in our district. I would like them to see the difference quality art supplies can make. I believe it will fill an emotional need as well as build self confidence and self discovery.
